Inspired by a project decades in the making, artist Snowfro of the Chromie Squiggle is launching a new work: Heart + Craft, an everlasting generative art drop that invites the collector to create a physical counterpart. Starting August 24, 2023, and minting on prohibition.art, this is Calderon’s first L2 project built on Art Blocks Engine

What it is:

Heart + Craft is a collaboration between Erick Calderon (Snowfro), artist and creator of Art Blocks, and Jordan Lyall, founder of VenturePunk. It launches on August 24 on the platform Prohibition, and will be priced at .01 ETH.

This is a physical optional/digital optional project and an “Inclusive Edition,” countering FOMO culture with high supply, low price, and future flexibility to reduce supply later.

Digital object description:

Collectors can expect to see a tribute to Erick’s signature style of generative gradients, in the shape of a heart. Each digital output will uniquely express colors and blocks inside of a heart container.

Physical object description:

Each NFT includes DIY instructions to physically create the art piece at home. The value of the physical object is not diminished if it is separated from the digital.

Why we are excited about it:
  • The physical assembly of the piece invites the collector to participate in co-creation of the art.
  • A relaxing experience that encourages the collector to extend the story of a digital asset past the point of mint, offering the ability to take time to make something that can live in the physical world.
  • A low cost and more egalitarian and relatable entry point for new consumers.
  • An inclusive edition: a nearly limitless supply to combat the rush to entry and manic nature of the Web3 ecosystem.
  • Encouraging the practice of craft, sitting down, making, living, and experiencing an un-rushed creative moment.

Erick Calderon is a Houston, TX based blockchain entrepreneur fully immersed in the NFT space. Erick has dedicated himself to exploring functional use cases for NFT technology, specifically in the art sector. These explorations culminated in the development and subsequent launch of the generative art NFT platform Art Blocks in November of 2020 and release of his own NFT project called the Chromie Squiggle.

Chromie Squiggle is an algorithmic edition of 10,000. Each output contains variable data that, when viewed, is combined with code that is stored on the Ethereum blockchain to generate a unique but deterministic output. The algorithm is relatively simple, and draws thousands of circles along a curve, each with an increasing fully saturated color hue that loops to make continuous gradients.

Jordan Lyall is the founder and CEO of Prohibition. He’s a design-led product builder and entrepreneur. Operating at the intersection of media and technology, Jordan founded the MEME Project, an early experimental NFT protocol in 2020. Prior, Jordan led product teams for ConsenSys and served as the CPO at Totle, a crypto liquidity network. In addition, he co-founded a digital media startup which was acquired by JibJab in 2014.

Although Jordan’s first exposure to non-fungible tokens was through CryptoKitties in 2017, he has been collecting top-tier NFTs and analyzing their markets since 2020. His personal portfolio includes many blue chip assets: CryptoPunks, ArtBlocks Curated (Chromie Squiggle, Fidenza, and more), Jack Butcher, Deafbeef, Fewocious and more.
